GuestPix alternative: how FotoDrop compares on price, privacy and limits
GuestPix and FotoDrop fix the same problem: photos from your event end up scattered across guests’ phones and group chats. With both, guests scan a QR code and add photos in the phone browser, with no app to install and no account to create. They differ in how long the album stays open, what you pay, what happens to photo files and what each privacy policy allows. Pick GuestPix if you want guests uploading for months, RSVPs and a video guestbook. Pick FotoDrop if you want a Free album to start, no advertising pixels and optional browser-side encryption.
Published by FotoDrop. Founder Martin Žídek is responsible for this comparison, and FotoDrop is our own service. We compared both on the same points, using GuestPix’s own pricing pages, FAQ, help centre, privacy policy and host terms as they read on 16 October 2026. We have not run an event on GuestPix, so nothing here is a hands-on test. Where we write that GuestPix does not state something, we could not find it on its pages; that does not mean the answer is no. Every GuestPix fact links to its source under the table, and FotoDrop’s limits sit next to its strengths.

What both services take off your plate
Without a shared album, guest photos stay on guests’ phones, get shrunk by messaging-app compression or disappear into a group chat nobody scrolls back through. GuestPix and FotoDrop both fix that, and both drop the two things that stop guests joining in: installing an app and creating an account.
- GuestPix: guests scan a QR code or open a private link and upload in the browser.
- FotoDrop: guests open the album from its QR code or link in the phone browser. Only the host signs in, by email, to manage the album.
The rest of this page is about where they differ: price and hosting time, the free plans, what happens to photo files, and privacy.
Price and how long the album stays open
GuestPix sells one-time packages per event, priced in US dollars by default with a currency switcher:
- Classic: $49 / €39 one-time; unlimited photos and videos, 3-month upload window, hosted for 12 months from the event date.
- Signature: $89 / €79 one-time; unlimited photos and videos, 12-month upload window, hosted for 12 months from the event date.
- Signature Bundle: $119 / €99 one-time; 3 separate event galleries, unlimited photos and videos, 24 months of uploads and hosting from the purchase date.
- Party Small: $39; photos only, 3-month upload window, 12 months of download.
GuestPix also notes that hosting can be renewed after the included period at a discounted rate, but the pricing page does not list the renewal price.
FotoDrop starts with a Free album. Paid albums are one-time payments: Mini at $9 (500 photos, 10 videos, 30 days) and Full at $19 (90 days, with 25 GB of storage included and no fixed photo or video count within it). A storage add-on raises that space, and hosting extensions of 7, 30 or 90 days are sold separately; see pricing.
What this means: GuestPix packages keep the gallery hosted for 12 months or more, so they suit couples who expect late uploads from guests and photographers. FotoDrop albums stay open for 14 to 90 days, longer with paid extensions, so FotoDrop suits events where the photos come in during the first days and weeks, at a lower one-time price. Download your copy before hosting ends on either service.
The free plans
GuestPix: the free plan gives you 50 photos and a 30-day upload window. According to GuestPix, video uploads need a paid package (not every package includes them), and the free plan is photos only. Its help centre adds that free events stay active for 37 days from the event date, and their content is deleted 90 days after the event. That 37-day figure comes from the help centre; the pricing page says 30 days.
FotoDrop: Your Free album holds up to 100 photos in total and stays available for 14 days from its first successful upload. No payment card needed. Videos are not included. You can add a video pack if you need videos.
Both are enough to try the guest flow before the day. GuestPix’s free plan suits a small gathering where the upload window matters more than the photo count; FotoDrop’s Free album holds more photos for a shorter time.
Photo files and storage space
GuestPix: it says photos are saved in original quality and the ZIP download holds the original files. Storage per wedding package is 200 GB on Classic and 400 GB on Signature and Signature Bundle, and unlimited guests are subject to a fair-use policy of up to 1,000 guests per event.
FotoDrop: Photos are normally optimised to at most 4,000 pixels on the longest edge. Keep the camera originals separately if you need untouched files, larger prints or room for substantial cropping. Mini counts photos and videos; Full has no fixed count within its 25 GB of included storage.
If untouched camera files matter most to you, for example for large prints, this is a point in GuestPix’s favour. If you mainly want everyone’s photos in one place to view, share and print at everyday sizes, FotoDrop’s optimised photos are made for that.
Privacy, ads and where photos are stored
This is where the two services differ most, and it is rarely on a pricing page.
Advertising and tracking. GuestPix says it does not sell or rent personal data, but shares data with Meta and Google for ad targeting, and its privacy policy discloses Google Analytics remarketing and Meta Pixel. FotoDrop has no advertising, advertising cookies or third-party analytics, and personal information is not sold.
Where photos are stored. GuestPix’s help centre says content is saved on infrastructure in North America, with a backup copy in the United States, and that edge nodes in Europe, Australia and India speed up uploads and downloads. In its privacy policy, no cloud provider is named, and personal information is listed as stored or processed in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. FotoDrop.online stores photos with Cloudflare, with no EU-only or country-specific residency commitment. The privacy policy explains where data is processed and which providers are involved.
Encryption. For GuestPix, no end-to-end encryption is stated, and the privacy policy mentions encryption only for transaction data. FotoDrop offers optional encryption, chosen when you create the album: photos and videos are encrypted in the browser before upload, and the complete link or QR code carries the key. Captions, album details and basic file details such as dimensions and capture time are not encrypted. FotoDrop keeps recovery data so the owner can get the key back, which means FotoDrop could technically recover it too; this is not end-to-end encryption in the strict sense.
Face recognition and AI. For GuestPix, no face recognition or AI processing of photos is stated, and neither its privacy policy nor its terms mention AI training. FotoDrop does not run face recognition or AI analysis on uploaded photos and videos, and does not use them to train AI.
Rights to your photos. GuestPix says hosts and guests keep 100% copyright to the photos and videos they upload. Its host terms also ask you to grant GuestPix a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable worldwide licence to your content, to be used consistently with your privacy preferences and its privacy policy; it ends when you delete the content or the account (or, for content already used in commercial or sponsored posts, when those are discontinued). In addition, its FAQ says GuestPix will never use your photos for its own marketing without your explicit written permission. With FotoDrop you also keep ownership of your content. FotoDrop’s terms ask for a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence, but only to receive, store, process, display and make your content available as needed to run the features and sharing choices you request, and they state that it is not a licence for advertising, independent commercial exploitation or AI training.
What guests see
GuestPix: it says galleries are not indexed by search engines, and the host can restrict uploads, hide photos from other guests or close the gallery.
FotoDrop: Guests open the album in their browser without installing an app or creating an account. By default, people with the shared link or QR code can view its photos while the album is active. A link can be forwarded, and recipients can save copies. Add a password or encryption if you want more control. With Full, you can also switch on private collection: guests see only their own uploads until you review the photos and publish the album.
When GuestPix is the better choice
GuestPix is the better fit for:
- Couples who want guests to keep uploading for a year or longer (12 months from the event date on Signature, $89; 24 months from the purchase date on Signature Bundle, $119; both one-time).
- Hosts who also want RSVPs, digital invitations and a video guestbook. FotoDrop has no RSVPs, digital invitations or video guestbook.
- Hosts who want the untouched camera files in their download. GuestPix says photos are saved in original quality and the ZIP download holds the original files.
- Couples with several events, such as an engagement party and the wedding: Signature Bundle ($119 / €99 one-time) gives you three separate event galleries with unlimited photos and videos and 24 months of uploads and hosting from the purchase date.
- Buyers who want a refund option on the pricing page: the wedding and party pricing pages list a 14-day money-back guarantee on each package, and the help centre says refund requests are assessed case by case. See the refund question below.
When FotoDrop is the better choice
FotoDrop is the better fit if:
- You want to start without paying: the Free album needs no payment card.
- Your guests share most photos in the first days or weeks, and you would rather pay once for a shorter hosting period than for months you will not use.
- You do not want advertising pixels or data shared with ad networks: FotoDrop has no advertising and no third-party analytics.
- You want optional browser-side encryption and a privacy policy that excludes face recognition, AI analysis and AI training.
How to try FotoDrop before you decide
- Try the guest flow in a separate rehearsal album: scan the QR code, select a photo, wait for confirmation and check that it appears. A test photo starts the hosting period, so use your event album only when you are ready for that countdown to begin.
- Create the event album with your email address and a name guests will recognise.
- Print the album’s QR code with a one-line request; our QR signs and wording page has an editable sign.
- Before the event, scan a printed sample with an iPhone and an Android phone.

Questions and answers
There is a free plan with 50 photos and a 30-day upload window. FotoDrop’s Free album holds 100 photos for 14 days from the first upload, with no payment card, and does not include videos.
Wedding packages are one-time payments per event: Classic is $49, Signature $89 and Signature Bundle (three events) $119, with euro prices available through a currency switcher. Party packages start at $39. Check GuestPix’s own pricing page before you pay, because prices change and may differ by currency.
If your album only needs to stay open for weeks rather than months, FotoDrop costs less: a Free album to start, then one-time upgrades to Mini at $9 or Full at $19, with no subscription. If you need guests to keep uploading for many months, compare the total cost carefully, because FotoDrop’s hosting periods are shorter. Our wedding photo sharing apps comparison also covers free do-it-yourself options such as shared cloud albums.
Neither. GuestPix says guests scan a QR code or open a private link and upload in the browser, and FotoDrop works the same way: guests open the album from its QR code or link in the phone browser, without an app or a guest account. Only the host signs in, by email.
GuestPix says photos are saved in original quality and the ZIP download holds the original files. FotoDrop works differently. Photos are normally optimised to at most 4,000 pixels on the longest edge. Keep the camera originals separately if you need untouched files, larger prints or room for substantial cropping.
The help centre says content is saved on infrastructure in North America, with a backup copy in the United States, and that edge nodes in Europe, Australia and India speed up uploads and downloads. In its privacy policy, no cloud provider is named, and personal information is listed as stored or processed in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. FotoDrop.online stores photos with Cloudflare, with no EU-only or country-specific residency commitment; its privacy policy explains where data is processed.
The wedding and party pricing pages list a 14-day money-back guarantee on each package, and the help centre says refund requests are assessed case by case. The host terms have a strict no-refund clause for “Digital Products”, which they describe as checklists, guides, ebooks, workbooks and video or audio content; they do not say how it applies to event packages. Ask GuestPix in writing before you buy if a refund matters to you.
