Kululu alternative: how FotoDrop compares on price, privacy and limits
Kululu and FotoDrop fix the same problem: photos from your event end up scattered across guests’ phones and group chats. With both, guests scan a QR code and add photos in the phone browser, with no app to install and no account to create. They differ in how long guests can upload, what you pay, what happens to photo files and what each privacy policy allows. Pick Kululu if you want a live photo wall even on the Free plan, text and video wishes from guests, and untouched camera files on its paid plans. Pick FotoDrop if you want a Free album that stays open for days rather than hours, no advertising tools or third-party analytics, and optional browser-side encryption.
Published by FotoDrop. Founder Martin Žídek is responsible for this comparison, and FotoDrop is our own service. We compared both on the same points, using Kululu’s own pricing page, help centre, privacy policy, terms, security page and refund policy as they read on 16 October 2026. We have not run an event on Kululu, so nothing here is a hands-on test. Where we write that Kululu does not state something, we could not find it on its pages; that does not mean the answer is no. Every Kululu fact links to its source under the table, and FotoDrop’s limits sit next to its strengths.
| Feature | FotoDrop | Kululu |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | Free album, then one-time upgrades and add-ons. No subscription. | One-time payment per event in US dollars, excluding taxes; the pricing page also advertises a limited-time 50% discount on all plans. Monthly subscriptions are offered to businesses that run several events. |
| Free option | Free: 100 photos, 14 days from the first upload, no payment card. Videos are not included; a video pack can be added. | Free: up to 100 photo and video uploads, 24-hour upload window, uploads saved for 7 days in standard quality. |
| Paid options | Mini: $9 one-time; 500 photos, 10 videos, 30 days. Full: $19 one-time, 90 days. No fixed photo or video limit; storage limits apply. | Plus: $39 one-time; up to 500 photo and video uploads, 1-month upload window, uploads saved for 3 months in original quality, one-click album download. Pro: $99 one-time; unlimited photo and video uploads, 3-month upload window, uploads saved for 1 year in original quality, manual moderation and an automatic content filter. |
| App needed for guests? | No app: guests upload in the phone browser from a QR code or link. | No app for hosts or guests; guests scan the QR code or open the album link in the browser. |
| Guest account needed? | No guest account. Protected albums need the password or the complete encrypted link. | No guest account; the help centre says guests do not need one to take part. |
| Photo quality | Photos are normally optimised to at most 4,000 pixels on the longest edge. Keep your originals separately. | Says Free plan photos are only slightly compressed; on Plus and Pro you can download photos and videos in original quality with available metadata. |
| Where data is hosted | Dedicated Cloudflare storage for this site, with no EU-only or country-specific residency commitment; see the privacy policy. | The privacy policy says data is stored on Google Cloud (Firebase) servers in the United States; the security page says data is hosted in US Central and EU Central, served according to the client’s location. |
| End-to-end encryption | No (optional browser-side encryption; FotoDrop keeps recovery data). Photos and videos can be encrypted in the browser, chosen when the album is created (off by default). Because FotoDrop keeps owner-recovery data, the service could technically recover the key. Captions, album details and basic file details such as dimensions and capture time are not encrypted. | The security page, under the heading “End to End Encryption”, describes encryption in transit (SSL) and Google Cloud’s default encryption at rest; it does not say photos are encrypted on the guest’s device. |
| Face recognition and AI analysis | No face recognition or AI analysis of uploaded photos and videos. | Says its system automatically detects most inappropriate photos and videos, and offers an automatic filter for adult, NSFW or violent content; the pricing table lists manual moderation and the automatic content filter on Pro. No face recognition stated. |
| Ads, tracking and data sales | No advertising, advertising cookies or third-party analytics. Personal information is not sold. | Says it does not sell personal data and that guests won’t see ads; the privacy policy lists Google Ads for its own marketing campaigns (“Not for retargeting users without consent”), plus Mixpanel and Simple Analytics. |
| Use of photos for AI training | Not used to train AI. | Not stated in the privacy policy or terms. |

What both services take off your plate
Without a shared album, guest photos stay on guests’ phones, get shrunk by messaging-app compression or disappear into a group chat nobody scrolls back through. Kululu and FotoDrop both fix that, and both drop the two things that stop guests joining in: installing an app and creating an account.
- Kululu: guests scan a QR code or open the album link in the browser, with no app to download.
- FotoDrop: guests open the album from its QR code or link in the phone browser. Only the host signs in, by email, to manage the album.
The rest of this page is about where they differ: price and upload time, the free plans, what happens to photo files, the live photo wall and privacy.
Price and how long guests can upload
Kululu has a Free plan, and its paid plans are one-time purchases per event, priced in US dollars excluding taxes:
- Free: up to 100 photo and video uploads, 24-hour upload window, uploads saved for 7 days in standard quality.
- Plus: $39 one-time; up to 500 photo and video uploads, 1-month upload window, uploads saved for 3 months in original quality, one-click album download.
- Pro: $99 one-time; unlimited photo and video uploads, 3-month upload window, uploads saved for 1 year in original quality, manual moderation and an automatic content filter.
Note that the pricing page advertises 50% off all plans for a limited time, and the plan table does not say whether its prices already include that discount. On every Kululu plan, the upload window starts when the event is marked as started and guests begin uploading, not when you create or upgrade the event.
FotoDrop starts with a Free album. Paid albums are one-time payments: Mini at $9 (500 photos, 10 videos, 30 days) and Full at $19 (90 days, with 25 GB of storage included and no fixed photo or video count within it). A storage add-on raises that space, and hosting extensions of 7, 30 or 90 days are sold separately; see pricing.
What this means: Kululu separates the upload window from storage. Guests upload during a set window, and the album then stays available for months after the window closes on the paid plans. FotoDrop albums stay open for 14 to 90 days from the first upload, longer with paid extensions, so FotoDrop suits events where the photos come in during the first days and weeks, at a lower one-time price. Download your copy before hosting ends on either service.
The free plans
Kululu: the Free plan gives you up to 100 photo and video uploads, a 24-hour upload window and 7 days of storage in standard quality. Note that Download All, which builds one ZIP of every photo and video, is on Plus and Pro only.
FotoDrop: Your Free album holds up to 100 photos in total and stays available for 14 days from its first successful upload. No payment card needed. Videos are not included. You can add a video pack if you need videos.
Both let you try the guest flow before the day. Kululu’s Free plan suits a small gathering where everyone shares on the night and you want videos too; FotoDrop’s Free album gives guests days rather than hours to upload, but holds photos only.
Photo files and downloads
Kululu: it says photos are only slightly compressed on the Free plan, and that Plus and Pro let you download photos and videos in original quality with available metadata. Kululu also notes that “unlimited” plans are subject to a fair usage policy of up to 10,000 uploads and 5,000 participants per event.
FotoDrop: Photos are normally optimised to at most 4,000 pixels on the longest edge. Keep the camera originals separately if you need untouched files, larger prints or room for substantial cropping. Mini counts photos and videos; Full has no fixed count within its 25 GB of included storage.
If untouched camera files matter most to you, for example for large prints, Kululu’s paid plans have the edge. If you mainly want everyone’s photos in one place to view, share and print at everyday sizes, FotoDrop’s optimised photos are made for that.
Live photo wall and guest messages
This is Kululu’s signature feature. On Kululu, every plan, Free included, comes with a digital album and a real-time slideshow (the Photo Wall) that can be shown on TVs or projectors. Its help centre adds that guests can add photos, videos, captions and text posts on a preset background, and its wedding page says guests can also leave a recorded video wish.
FotoDrop: the live slideshow is included with Full and available as an add-on ($4.99) for Free and Mini albums, bought by the host. It adds new photos as they arrive; cast it from Chrome signed in as the host, or connect a laptop to the screen. Google Cast is not available for encrypted albums. A written guestbook is available as an add-on for Full albums. FotoDrop has no video guestbook, RSVPs or digital invitations.
Privacy, ads and where photos are stored
This is where the two services differ most, and it is rarely on a pricing page.
Advertising and tracking. Kululu says it does not sell personal data and that guests won’t see ads; its privacy policy lists Google Ads for its own marketing campaigns, not for retargeting users without consent, plus Mixpanel and Simple Analytics for analytics. FotoDrop has no advertising, advertising cookies or third-party analytics, and personal information is not sold.
Where photos are stored. For Kululu, the privacy policy says data is stored on Google Cloud (Firebase) servers in the United States, and the security page says data is hosted in US Central and EU Central, served according to the client’s location. FotoDrop.online stores photos with Cloudflare, with no EU-only or country-specific residency commitment. The privacy policy explains where data is processed and which providers are involved.
Encryption. For Kululu, the security page uses the heading “End to End Encryption”, but what it describes is encryption in transit (SSL) and Google Cloud’s default encryption at rest; it does not say photos are encrypted on the guest’s device. FotoDrop offers optional encryption, chosen when you create the album: photos and videos are encrypted in the browser before upload, and the complete link or QR code carries the key. Captions, album details and basic file details such as dimensions and capture time are not encrypted. FotoDrop keeps recovery data so the owner can get the key back, which means FotoDrop could technically recover it too; this is not end-to-end encryption in the strict sense.
Content filtering, face recognition and AI. Kululu checks uploads for inappropriate content. It says its system automatically detects most inappropriate photos and videos and offers an automatic filter for adult, NSFW or violent content; it does not mention face recognition. As for training, neither its privacy policy nor its terms mention AI training. FotoDrop does not run face recognition or AI analysis on uploaded photos and videos, and does not use them to train AI. That also means no automatic content filter: the host removes anything unwanted from the album.
Rights to your photos. The help centre says Kululu does not sell, share or use your content and that everything you upload belongs to you. Its terms also ask you to grant Kululu a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to scan and collect your content, store it on its own or third-party servers, and use it to provide the service “and in any other manner detailed herein”. With FotoDrop you also keep ownership of your content. FotoDrop’s terms ask for a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence, but only to receive, store, process, display and make your content available as needed to run the features and sharing choices you request, and they state that it is not a licence for advertising, independent commercial exploitation or AI training.
What guests see
Kululu: it says only you and the people you share the event page with can open the gallery. It also notes that upload-only access, where guests cannot see or download other guests’ uploads, and switching off guest downloads are Pro features.
FotoDrop: Guests open the album in their browser without installing an app or creating an account. By default, people with the shared link or QR code can view its photos while the album is active. A link can be forwarded, and recipients can save copies. Add a password or encryption if you want more control. With Full, you can also switch on private collection: guests see only their own uploads until you review the photos and publish the album.
When Kululu is the better choice
Kululu is the better fit for:
- Events that want a live photo wall on a TV or projector. Kululu includes the photo wall on every plan; FotoDrop includes its slideshow with Full and sells it as an add-on for Free and Mini.
- Couples who want guests to leave text posts or recorded video wishes next to their photos, as a digital guestbook. FotoDrop has no video guestbook, RSVPs or digital invitations.
- Large or public events that need manual approval of guest uploads and an automatic content filter (Pro).
- Hosts who want the untouched camera files in their download: on Plus and Pro, Kululu lets you download photos and videos in original quality with available metadata.
- Hosts who want the album online for a long time after the event: Pro at $99 one-time, with unlimited photo and video uploads, a 3-month upload window and 1 year of storage.
- Buyers who want a refund option: its Fair Refund Policy offers a 100% money-back guarantee if you end up not using Kululu at your event, “for whatever reason”, and you ask by email or chat.
When FotoDrop is the better choice
FotoDrop is the better fit if:
- You want to start without paying and give guests days rather than hours to upload: the Free album needs no payment card and stays open for 14 days from the first upload.
- Your guests share most photos in the first days or weeks, and you would rather pay a lower one-time price for a shorter hosting period.
- You do not want advertising tools or third-party analytics in the service you share with guests: FotoDrop has no advertising and no third-party analytics.
- You want optional browser-side encryption and a privacy policy that excludes face recognition, AI analysis and AI training.
How to try FotoDrop before you decide
- Try the guest flow in a separate rehearsal album: scan the QR code, select a photo, wait for confirmation and check that it appears. A test photo starts the hosting period, so use your event album only when you are ready for that countdown to begin.
- Create the event album with your email address and a name guests will recognise.
- Print the album’s QR code with a one-line request; our QR signs and wording page has an editable sign.
- Before the event, scan a printed sample with an iPhone and an Android phone.
Comparing more than these two? Our wedding photo sharing apps comparison checks sixteen options on the same points, our GuestPix alternative page compares another popular service, and how it works shows the FotoDrop steps for hosts and guests.

Questions and answers
There is a Free plan with up to 100 photo and video uploads, a 24-hour upload window and 7 days of storage in standard quality. Kululu says the upload window starts when the event is marked as started and guests begin uploading, not when you create or upgrade the event, and that Download All, which builds one ZIP of every photo and video, is on Plus and Pro only. FotoDrop’s Free album holds 100 photos for 14 days from the first upload, with no payment card, and does not include videos.
Kululu’s paid plans are one-time purchases per event, priced in US dollars excluding taxes: Plus at $39 one-time, with up to 500 photo and video uploads, a 1-month upload window and 3 months of storage, and Pro at $99 one-time, with unlimited photo and video uploads, a 3-month upload window and 1 year of storage. The pricing page advertises 50% off all plans for a limited time; the plan table shows $39 and $99 without saying whether the discount is already applied. Check Kululu’s own pricing page before you pay, because prices change.
If your guests share most photos in the first days and weeks, FotoDrop costs less: a Free album to start, then one-time upgrades to Mini at $9 or Full at $19, with no subscription. If you want the album online for many months, compare the total cost carefully, because FotoDrop’s hosting periods are shorter. Our wedding photo sharing apps comparison also covers free do-it-yourself options such as shared cloud albums.
Both work in the phone browser from a QR code, with no guest app. Kululu is built around a live photo wall and has a Free plan; its paid plans start at $39 one-time. GuestPix starts at $49 one-time for wedding packages and $39 for party packages, with a free plan as well. It adds RSVPs, digital invitations and a video guestbook, and keeps uploads open for a year or longer on its higher packages. On privacy, Kululu lists Google Ads for its own marketing plus Mixpanel and Simple Analytics, and says guests won’t see ads; GuestPix says it does not sell or rent personal data, but shares data with Meta and Google for ad targeting. Our GuestPix alternative page compares GuestPix with FotoDrop on the same points.
Neither. Kululu says guests scan a QR code or open the album link in the browser, with no app to download, and that guests do not need an account to take part. FotoDrop works the same way: guests open the album from its QR code or link in the phone browser, without an app or a guest account. Only the host signs in, by email.
Kululu says photos are only slightly compressed on the Free plan, and that Plus and Pro let you download photos and videos in original quality with available metadata. FotoDrop works differently. Photos are normally optimised to at most 4,000 pixels on the longest edge. Keep the camera originals separately if you need untouched files, larger prints or room for substantial cropping.
Kululu’s pages give two answers: the privacy policy says data is stored on Google Cloud (Firebase) servers in the United States, and the security page says data is hosted in US Central and EU Central, served according to the client’s location. FotoDrop.online stores photos with Cloudflare, with no EU-only or country-specific residency commitment; its privacy policy explains where data is processed.
The Fair Refund Policy offers a 100% money-back guarantee if you end up not using Kululu at your event, “for whatever reason”; you ask by email or chat. If a refund matters to you, read that policy before you buy.
