FotoDrop vs WedUploader

WedUploader alternative: how FotoDrop compares on price, storage and privacy

If you are looking for a WedUploader alternative, start with what the two have in common. WedUploader and FotoDrop fix the same problem: photos from your wedding end up scattered across guests’ phones and group chats. With both, guests scan a QR code and add photos in the phone browser, with no app to install and no account to create. The big difference is where the photos go. WedUploader sends every upload into your own Google Drive, and its one-time premium package covers all your albums. FotoDrop keeps the photos in its own album, so you need no Google account. Pick WedUploader if you want the original files in your Drive, albums with no expiry date or voice messages from guests. Pick FotoDrop if you would rather not connect your Google account, want to start with a Free album, or want a service without advertising tools or third-party analytics that also offers optional browser-side encryption.

Published by FotoDrop. Founder Martin Žídek is responsible for this comparison, and FotoDrop is our own service. We compared both on the same points, using WedUploader’s own pricing page, FAQ, about page, tutorial, feature pages, its information page for AI assistants, privacy policy and terms as they read on 18 October 2026. We have not run an event on WedUploader, so nothing here is a hands-on test. Where we write that WedUploader does not state something, we could not find it on its pages; that does not mean the answer is no. Every WedUploader fact links to its source under the table, and FotoDrop’s limits sit next to its strengths.

Pricing

Free album, then one-time upgrades and add-ons. No subscription.

A one-time payment unlocks its premium features for all of a host’s albums, with no subscription; guests contribute for free.

Free option

Free: 100 photos, 14 days from the first upload, no payment card.

Videos are not included; a video pack can be added.

The pricing page lists no free plan. WedUploader’s tutorial describes creating an album and collecting guest uploads before the payment step it gives for the gallery and guestbook, and its Standard Features page says every album comes with a QR code, link and printable signs “all provided for free”, but no page plainly says whether a host who has not paid can collect uploads.

Paid options

Mini: $9 one-time; 500 photos, 10 videos, 30 days.

Full: $19 one-time, 90 days. No fixed photo or video limit; storage limits apply.

Premium: $39, £30, €40 or AU$60 one-time. It lists unlimited uploads to the host’s Google Drive, unlimited albums, no expiration date, a real-time shared gallery, a private guestbook, guest voicemails, a fullscreen slideshow and a personalised album link.

Seating chart add-on: $19, £14, €19 or AU$29 one-time, available only after buying the premium package.

App needed for guests?

No app: guests upload in the phone browser from a QR code or link.

No app: guests upload in any web browser from the album link or QR code.

Guest account needed?

No guest account. Protected albums need the password or the complete encrypted link.

No guest account or login; the host signs up with Google and connects a Google Drive.

Photo quality

Photos are normally optimised to at most 4,000 pixels on the longest edge.

Keep your originals separately.

Says photos and videos reach the host’s Google Drive in their original high quality.

Where data is hosted

Dedicated Cloudflare storage for this site, with no EU-only or country-specific residency commitment; see the privacy policy.

Guest uploads are transferred to a folder in the host’s own Google Drive; WedUploader keeps the host’s Google access token on its servers until access is revoked.

End-to-end encryption

No (optional browser-side encryption; FotoDrop keeps recovery data).

Photos and videos can be encrypted in the browser, chosen when the album is created (off by default). Because FotoDrop keeps owner-recovery data, the service could technically recover the key.

Captions, album details and basic file details such as dimensions and capture time are not encrypted.

Not stated: the privacy policy and feature pages do not mention encryption.

Face recognition and AI analysis

No face recognition or AI analysis of uploaded photos and videos.

The privacy policy lists biometric information, such as faceprints, as not collected, and does not mention AI analysis of uploads.

Ads, tracking and data sales

No advertising, advertising cookies or third-party analytics. Personal information is not sold.

The privacy policy says it may sell some personal information as US state law defines a sale, that analytics or advertising partners may use it for interest-based advertising, and that it uses Google Analytics; it also says Google Drive data is not used for serving advertisements.

Use of photos for AI training

Not used to train AI.

Not stated: the privacy policy and terms do not mention AI training.

What both services take off your plate

Without a shared album, guest photos stay on guests’ phones, get shrunk by messaging-app compression or disappear into a group chat nobody scrolls back through. WedUploader and FotoDrop both fix that, and both drop the two things that stop guests joining in: installing an app and creating an account.

  • WedUploader: guests upload photos and videos in any web browser from the album link or QR code, with no app to download. It says guests do not need an account or login, while the host signs up with Google and connects a Google Drive.
  • FotoDrop: guests open the album from its QR code or link in the phone browser. Only the host signs in, by email, to manage the album.

The rest of this page is about where they differ: where the photos end up, price and free options, photo files, the extras, and privacy.

Where the photos go

WedUploader: guest uploads are transferred to a folder in the host’s own Google Drive, and WedUploader keeps the host’s Google access token on its servers until access is revoked. On capacity, how much guests can upload depends on your Google Drive space: WedUploader points to the 15 GB of free storage Google provides, and suggests downloading and deleting files or buying more Google storage if it fills up. It also says the host gets an email whenever new files are uploaded.

FotoDrop: the photos are stored in the FotoDrop album itself, not in your own cloud storage. You sign in by email, so you do not need a Google account or have to give FotoDrop access to your Drive. Each album has its own photo and storage limits, and you download your copy before hosting ends.

What this means: WedUploader suits couples who already live in Google Drive and want every file there from the first upload, with no copying afterwards. FotoDrop suits hosts who would rather not connect a Google account, or whose Drive is already close to full.

Price and how long the album stays open

WedUploader charges a one-time payment that unlocks its premium features for all of a host’s albums, with no subscription:

  • Premium: $39, £30, €40 or AU$60 one-time. It lists unlimited uploads to the host’s Google Drive, unlimited albums, no expiration date, a real-time shared gallery, a private guestbook, guest voicemails, a fullscreen slideshow and a personalised album link.
  • Seating chart add-on: $19, £14, €19 or AU$29 one-time, available only after buying the premium package.

On how long albums last, the premium package lists “No expiration date”, and the uploaded files stay in your Google Drive, subject to your Google account and its storage.

FotoDrop starts with a Free album. Paid albums are one-time payments: Mini at $9 (500 photos, 10 videos, 30 days) and Full at $19 (90 days, with 25 GB of storage included and no fixed photo or video count within it). A storage add-on raises that space, and hosting extensions of 7, 30 or 90 days are sold separately; see pricing.

What this means: WedUploader charges once for all your albums, and the files live in your Drive with no expiry date, so it suits couples with several events, or couples who want the album online for years. FotoDrop is priced per album and hosts it for 14 to 90 days from the first upload, longer with paid extensions, so it suits a single event where the photos come in during the first days and weeks.

Free options

WedUploader: its FAQ says it is free for guests to use. For hosts, its pricing page lists no free plan, although its tutorial describes collecting guest uploads before the payment step it gives for the gallery and guestbook. If you are counting on a free start, check what your account allows before you share the QR code.

FotoDrop: Your Free album holds up to 100 photos in total and stays available for 14 days from its first successful upload. No payment card needed. Videos are not included. You can add a video pack if you need videos.

So with FotoDrop you can run the whole guest flow, including a rehearsal, before deciding whether you need more.

Photo files and downloads

WedUploader: its pricing page says photos and videos reach your Google Drive in their original high quality.

FotoDrop: Photos are normally optimised to at most 4,000 pixels on the longest edge. Keep the camera originals separately if you need untouched files, larger prints or room for substantial cropping. Mini counts photos and videos; Full has no fixed count within its 25 GB of included storage.

If untouched camera files matter most to you, for example for large prints, WedUploader has the edge. If you mainly want everyone’s photos in one place to view, share and print at everyday sizes, FotoDrop’s optimised photos are made for that.

Gallery, guestbook, voicemails and slideshow

WedUploader: the premium package adds a real-time shared gallery, a private guestbook for captions and messages, private guest voicemails, a fullscreen slideshow photo wall, album layouts and colours, a personalised link, event managers and premium QR sign templates. In the gallery, the host can pick which photos to display and which to keep private.

FotoDrop: the live slideshow is included with Full and available as an add-on ($4.99) for Free and Mini albums, bought by the host. It adds new photos as they arrive; cast it from Chrome signed in as the host, or connect a laptop to the screen. Google Cast is not available for encrypted albums. A written guestbook is available as an add-on for Full albums. FotoDrop has no voice messages.

Privacy, ads and where photos are stored

Privacy is rarely on a pricing page, so here are both services’ policies side by side.

Advertising and tracking. For WedUploader, its privacy policy says it may sell some personal information as US state law defines a sale, that analytics or advertising partners may use it for interest-based advertising, and that it uses Google Analytics; the same policy says it will not use Google Drive data for serving advertisements. FotoDrop has no advertising, advertising cookies or third-party analytics, and personal information is not sold.

Where photos are stored. For WedUploader, guest uploads are transferred to a folder in the host’s own Google Drive, and WedUploader keeps the host’s Google access token on its servers until access is revoked. FotoDrop.online stores photos with Cloudflare, with no EU-only or country-specific residency commitment. The privacy policy explains where data is processed and which providers are involved.

Encryption. For WedUploader, its privacy policy and feature pages do not mention encryption. FotoDrop offers optional encryption, chosen when you create the album: photos and videos are encrypted in the browser before upload, and the complete link or QR code carries the key. Captions, album details and basic file details such as dimensions and capture time are not encrypted. FotoDrop keeps recovery data so the owner can get the key back, which means FotoDrop could technically recover it too; this is not end-to-end encryption in the strict sense.

Face recognition and AI. For WedUploader, its privacy policy lists biometric information, such as faceprints, as not collected, and does not mention AI analysis of uploads. On training, its privacy policy and terms do not mention AI training. For context, its privacy policy and terms were both last updated on 3 January 2022. FotoDrop does not run face recognition or AI analysis on uploaded photos and videos, and does not use them to train AI.

Rights to your photos. With WedUploader you keep your rights, but its terms ask you to grant a licence to use, modify, publicly perform, publicly display, reproduce and distribute your content on and through the service, including making it available to other users of the service. With FotoDrop you also keep ownership of your content. FotoDrop’s terms ask for a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence, but only to receive, store, process, display and make your content available as needed to run the features and sharing choices you request, and they state that it is not a licence for advertising, independent commercial exploitation or AI training.

What guests see

WedUploader: guests see a shared gallery only after the host buys the premium package and switches the album from private to public. On moderation, its tutorial says the host and any guest can remove a photo from the shared gallery on its moderator page, the host can reinstate it, and removing it from the gallery does not delete it from Google Drive.

FotoDrop: Guests open the album in their browser without installing an app or creating an account. By default, people with the shared link or QR code can view its photos while the album is active. A link can be forwarded, and recipients can save copies. Add a password or encryption if you want more control. With Full, you can also switch on private collection: guests see only their own uploads until you review the photos and publish the album.

When WedUploader is the better choice

WedUploader is the better fit for:

  • Couples who want guests’ photos and videos to land in their own Google Drive, in original quality. FotoDrop optimises photos and keeps them in its own album.
  • Hosts with several events, such as an engagement party, a shower and the wedding: one premium payment covers all their albums. FotoDrop is priced per album.
  • Couples who want voice messages and written guestbook entries alongside the photos. FotoDrop has no voice messages.
  • Couples who want the photos to stay put with no expiry date, as described under price. FotoDrop albums are hosted for a set number of days, so you download your copy.
  • Couples who already pay for Google storage and have plenty of room left.

When FotoDrop is the better choice

FotoDrop is the better fit if:

  • You would rather not sign in with Google or give a service access to your Google Drive: the FotoDrop host signs in by email.
  • Your Google Drive is close to full: FotoDrop albums do not use your Google storage, though each album has its own photo and storage limits.
  • You want to start without paying: the Free album needs no payment card and stays open for 14 days from the first upload.
  • You do not want advertising tools or third-party analytics in the service you share with guests, and you want optional browser-side encryption.

How to try FotoDrop before you decide

  1. Try the guest flow in a separate rehearsal album: scan the QR code, select a photo, wait for confirmation and check that it appears. A test photo starts the hosting period, so use your event album only when you are ready for that countdown to begin.
  2. Create the event album with your email address and a name guests will recognise.
  3. Print the album’s QR code with a one-line request; our QR signs and wording page has an editable sign.
  4. Before the event, scan a printed sample with an iPhone and an Android phone.

Comparing more than these two? Our wedding photo sharing apps comparison checks sixteen options on the same points, our GuestPix alternative, GuestCam alternative and Kululu alternative pages compare three other popular services, and how it works shows the FotoDrop steps for hosts and guests.

Questions and answers

WedUploader is free for guests to use. For hosts, its pricing page lists no free plan, although its tutorial describes collecting guest uploads before the payment step it gives for the gallery and guestbook. Its premium package costs $39 (or £30) one-time for all of a host’s albums. Storage is a separate question, because how much guests can upload depends on your Google Drive space: WedUploader points to the 15 GB of free storage Google provides, and suggests downloading and deleting files or buying more Google storage if it fills up. FotoDrop’s Free album holds 100 photos for 14 days from the first upload, with no payment card, and does not include videos.
